Description
A partially printed bill of sale of an enslaved man named Jesse to the Governor of Georgia. The document is brownish white with black printed text with brown handwritten additions. The additions were written by William Adams, who also signed the document. The document begins [Know all Men by these Presents, / That I, Wm. Adams of the State of / Georgia for and in consideration of the sum of / four hundred Dollars to me in hand paid by F. M. Stone, (Agent for purchasing Negroes for the State of Georgia, appointed / by his Excellency the Governor of said State, under and by virtue of an Act of the General Assembly of said State, / passed December 1829,) at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof I do hereby / acknowledge: have granted, bargained, sold and delivered, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and deliver / unto the GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA for the time being and his successors in office, / a male slave named Jesse aged Twenty five / of black complexion and 5 Feet 8 Inches high. To have and to hold the said slave / unto the Governor of the State of Georgia for the time being and his successors in office, for ever…].
