Description
Two identical copies of The Klan Edition of the Kourier Magazine from April 1929. The magazine has been printed on white newsprint with black lettering. The magazine has a statement featured in the center of the cover in a black, outlined box below the masthead and dateline: [This is the new Klan / Edition of the Kourier. / It is for Klansmen only; / subscribers can obtain / it only from their Kli- / grapp. IT MUST NOT / BE SHOWN TO ANY / ALIEN NOR LEFT / WHERE ANY ALIEN / MAY SEE IT.] At the bottom of the cover is a selling line: [Official Organ of The KU KLUX KLAN]. Articles include: “The Better Klan Magazine,” “Things Klansmen Should Know,” Under the Fiery Cross,” “Comment For and Against Us,” and the “The Disgrace of Italy.” There are also two poems entitled, “The Regular Army Man” by Joseph C. Lincoln and “Nathan Hale” by Francis Miles Finch.
Statement
Objects depicting symbols of hate or related to organized hate groups may be offensive and disturbing, but the NMAAHC aims to include them in the Collection to present and preserve the historical context in which they were created and used. Objects of this type provide an important historical record from which to study and evaluate history and culture.
