- Description
- A rounded multi-part wooden hat form or stand used by Yvonne DeVigne. The form is composed of five total separable parts (2014.272.11a: Base/Center piece, 2014.272.11b: Front piece, 2014.272.11c: PL piece, 2014.272.11d: Back piece, 2014.272.11e: PR piece). The form was carved from three layers of wood which were glued together. The final carved pieces have been cut to fit together through joinery to reassemble and retain the original form. The center piece serves as the base of the form and has small blocks screwed to it to which the other four pieces attach onto via carved slots. It also has two drilled holes in its bottom surface, the large hole approximately 1 1/2" in diameter, the smaller hole about 1/2" in diameter. There are two small "x"s etched onto the surface of the hat stand, one in the back PR corner of the top piece (2014.272.11a), the other in the middle of the PL side on the top of the piece (2014.272.11c). Text written on the back of the base piece (2014.272.11a) in black ink reads [222X]. When assembled, the hat form is rounded but uneven, with a number of divots and carved rims of varying shape curving around the circumference of the piece.
