Caption
Alberta Marlene Wyche was born in Philadelphia in 1923. She enlisted as a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps in April 1945. Lieutenant Wyche served in the ANC for nearly a year before she was honorably discharged in February 1946. She passed away in 1999 at the age of 76.
Description
A black and white photograph portrait of Lieutenant Alberta M. Wyche wearing a World War II Army Nurse Corps uniform. Captured by photographer Gaston L. DeVigne, Wyche is smiling and looking over her shoulder to the right. Her shoulder length hair is loose on her shoulders. The uniform consists of a jacket, a blouse with tie, and a cap. At the center of the cap is an insignia depicting the Great Seal of the United States. On her lapel, she is wearing two (2) pins. The upper pin says [U.S.] and the lower pin is the Army Nurse Corps insignia, a caduceus, featuring two (2) snakes winding around a winged staff. There are no marks or inscriptions, front or back.
