- A first edition, hardcover book of the Narrative of Sojourner Truth. The dark brown cover has a gold illustration of Truth at center. There is a frontispiece portrait of an engraving of a photograph of Truth opposite the title page. The title page reads, [NARRATIVE / SOJOURNER TRUTH; / A Bondswoman of Olden Time, / EMANCIPATED BY THE NEW YORK LEGISLATURE IN THE / EARLY PART OF THE PRESENT CENTURY; / WITH A HISTORY OF HER / LABORS AND CORRESPONDENCE / DRAWN FROM HER / "BOOK OF LIFE;" / ALSO, / A MEMORIAL CHAPTER, / GIVING THE PARTICULARS OF / HER LAST SICKNESS and DEATH]. There is a label on the front endpaper and a handwritten inscription on the front flyleaf, both for previous owners, and handwritten numerical inscriptions on the last page.
