Poems of Cabin and Field compiles five previously published poems by Paul Laurence Dunbar and pairs them with photographs of African Americans captured by the Hampton Institute Camera Club, a group consisting mostly of white faculty members.
Description
An 1899 edition, hardcover, octavo book of Poems of Cabin and Field by Paul Laurence Dunbar with black and white photographs by the Hampton Institute Camera Club. The book is covered in brown cloth with gilt title and author on the front cover and spine. Also on the front cover and spine is an art nouveau style design of green vines and large red flowers. Intricate pale green border designs of flowers, fruits, vegetables, animals, and musical instruments by Alice Morse surround the photographs and text of each interior page of the book. The title page is printed entirely in pale green and the title, author's name and publisher have been traced over with black ink. There are 125 pages.
