- Description
- This is a black and white stereograph card of two rows of mounted soldiers, the top row standing on top of a large fallen tree trunk. Consisting of two similar images side by side, the card is arranged with the images in the center. The front row of soldiers and horses are lined up in front of a very large fallen tree. The tree trunk on its side rises higher than the height of the mounted solder's heads. At the near right end of the front line are two women on horseback. The woman in the foreground wears a light colored blouse with wide sleeves and a high collar, and a dark colored split riding skirt and wide brimmed hat. Behind her and two people to her right is another woman, similarly dressed. Both women are mounted and stand next to the mounted soldiers. Above their heads, the back row of mounted soldiers are standing on top of the fallen tree trunk. These soldiers’ horses stand in a line nose to tail. There is text along the left hand margin of the card that reads [The "PERFECT" STEREOGRAPH. (Trade Mark.) / Patented April 14, 1903. Other Patents Pending]. Text at the bottom right margin of the image reads [705 Troop D, 9th Cav., on the trunk of the Fallen Monarch, Mariposa / Grove, Cal U.S.A. Copyright 1905 by H.C. White Co.] Text along the right hand margin reads [H.C. WHITE CO., Gen'l Offices N. Bennington Vt., U.S.A. / Branch Offices: New York, Chicago, London].
