Description
Photographic print of the second anniversary of the Attica Uprising. Two men are pictured standing in front of the Attica Correctional Facility building, with a banner behind them reading "[W]E DEMAND: / -DROP THE CHARGES AGAINST THE / ATTICA [BRO]THERS!" with two more bullet points illegible because behind the two men. The man in the background (thought to be Frank Smith) is wearing a white under shirt with an unbuttoned long sleeve shirt over top, with a straw hat on and a mustache. The man in the foreground (thought to be New York Assemblyman Arthur O. Eve) is speaking and pointing back at the man on the left with his PR arm, wearing a suit jacket and tie, has mustache and goatee. "SS" is written vertically in the bottom left corner of the front of the photograph. On the reverse, a newspaper clipping is taped onto the back reading, in black type, "New York Assemblyman Arthur O. Eve of buffalo addressed a rally yesterday outside the Attica, / N. Y., prison, marking the second anniversary of t he Attica revolt. Behind Eve was Frank Smith, one / of nearly 60 inmates indicted in connection with t he revolt, wihch took the lives of both inmates and /noninmates. Smith faces a murder charge. - A.P. wirephoto.] The newspaper clipping has a handwritten "3" in red at the bottom, and "SEP 10 1973" is stamped in red ink in the bottom right corner. Also on the reverse, "SEP 10 1973" is stamped vertically in the bottom left, as well as in the top right corner, both in red ink. Two handwritten notes in red ink are also on the reverse of the photograph: top border reading "Attica State Prison" and right above the newspaper clipping (under the tape) reading "New York State Prisons".
