Description
World’s Fair medal for the 100 Yards Dash event awarded to Eulace Peacock in 1939. The medal consists of a gold colored bar pin holding an orange and blue ribbon attached to a medal. The gold tone pin is rectangular shaped with a “C” clasp closure on the back. The ribbon is crimped to the front of the bar at each corner. Attached to the bottom of the ribbon is a clover-shaped, gold colored medal held in place with two (2) jump rings. The obverse of the medal has a circular frame with relief text that reads [N.Y. JOURNAL AMERICAN] at the top and [WORLD’S FAIR GAMES 1939] at the bottom, with five pointed stars between the top and bottom text. Inside the frame is a relief depiction of an athlete depicted in a runner’s starting position on a track. He is crouched down with his hands on the ground in front of him, his proper left knee bent and placed between his elbows. His body faces the left edge of the medal. Surrounding the runner is l relief wreath. The background of the medal is textured. The reverse of the medal has engraved text that reads [100 YDS. DASH] with engraved flourishes above and below the lines of text. Along the bottom edge is a stamped maker’s mark for Dieges & Clust and hallmark that reads [D&C / 1/10 10K.G.F.].
