- Negro Digest, volume 1, number 12. Among the articles featured is Eleanor Roosevelt’s essay, [Freedom: Promise or Fact]. The front cover has a blue banner with the mast head at top that reads [NEGRO DIGEST] in centered, white block lettering. A red, vertical banner runs down the binding edge, with a white circle with [25¢] printed in the center in blue type. The main body of front cover is an off-white field with blue type, with the subtitle of the magazine, [A Magazine Of Negro Comment], centered at the top, between two red lines in blue type. The rest of the off-white field features the table of contents of the magazine, including a roundtable discussion, twenty-three (23) articles and a book section with corresponding authors and page numbers listed. There is a blue banner at the bottom with [OCTOBER 1943] centered in white type. This magazine issue is has ninety-eight (98) pages, are off-white with black type throughout, and has some graphics and black and white images included. The back cover has a thick blue banner running along the top, and a thin red, diagonally tilted banner running along the bottom. White text located at the center of the blue banner reads [FIGHT and SAVE]. Below, on an off-white background, is a graphic of a soldier on the left and a family buying war bonds on the right with overlaying blue text that reads [Buy / WAR BONDS / AND STAMPS] followed by three paragraphs of text.
