Description
Jet Magazine, volume 1, number 1, featuring a full length black and white image of Mrs. Ray Robinson, against a red and white background. Robinson is wearing a full length mink coat, dark gloves, and dark strappy sandals. She is facing the camera in three-quarter view with her PL side forward. Below Robinson’s image is the model’s credit with a caption, in black ink, that reads [Mrs. Ray Robinson / And Her / $10,000 Mink]. The top third of the background to the left of the model is white and has the masthead in black text [JET / THE WEEKLY NEGRO NEWS MAGAZINE]. The right left side of the cover is red white text with the date line and price [15c / Nov. 1, 1951 / A Johnson Publication], the main cover line, [TEN WAYS TO GET / A MINK COAT], and two additional cover lines, [IS BILLY / ECKSTINE / SLIPPING] below the main cover line and [WHY NEGRO SUICIDES ARE INCREASING] running along the bottom edge of the cover. The back cover features a black and white image of Billy Eckstine and his wife, June, drying dishes. This magazine issue is supposed to have sixty-six (66) pages, however ten (10) pages are missing.
