Soul Force newsletter, volume 5, number 1. The newsletter is printed on newsprint paper with black type. The newsletter is folded together but not stapled. The front cover features a black-and-white image of two men conversing on a sidewalk, in front of a low brick wall. The man on the right is depicted in profile, facing the left edge of the cover and the other man. He wears a white t-shirt, and medium tone pants, and looks downwards towards the item in his proper left hand. The man on the left is facing the viewer and is also looking downwards at the item in the hands of the man on the right. He wears overalls, a jacket, and a cap and holds his arms behind his back. In the background is a low brick wall on the left with low plants in front of it and a taller structure on the right, with larger bushes in front of it. Printed over the sidewalk area on the far left is small black text that reads [politics ’72: / grass-roots organizing…. / voter registrations, political education…. / political coalitions….]. Printed in the top third of the front cover is the masthead on the left that reads, [SOUL / force], and the date on the right that reads, [JULY / 1971]. The back cover is formatted like a post card, with a subscription form. The newsletter is fifteen (15) pages and includes articles and black and white images throughout. Articles titles include: [Did You Know?], [comment], [Nixon-Mitchell-Mississippi], [Politics ’71: Mississippi], [Politics ’72: Black Voters], [He’s The Greatest!], about Muhammad Ali, [Workers’ / Victories / Include / MLK Holiday], [Angela’s Mother Speaks / …political prisoner], [Solidarity / Day: Cairo], [Boycott / Hurts A&P], [South Africa: REPRESSION GETS WORSE], [Kwame], [FREE DRAFT / RISISTERS!], and {BOOK REVIEW: “Uncle Tom’s Children”]. On the last page is an advertisement for an upcoming Southeastern Christian Leadership (SCLC) event. The text on the advertisement reads, [SCLC / 14th / Annual / Convention / AUG. 10-13th] and includes a pre-registration form and a tentative agenda. The first page, located on the interior of front cover, lists the Editorial Board members, editorial staff names, and press names, along with the volume and issue number.
