- Description
- This is a rectangular off-white paper stock certificate.
- Obverse: Bordered by a decorative pattern that features a modified floral and half circle. The name of the company "ROCK ISLAND" is in large letters centered in the middle of the rectangle. The words "GOLD & SILVER MINING COMPANY." The certificate is made out to "Ja's Coffin [illegible]/ Twenty (20)." Along the top the certificate is dated "Sept 12th 1876."
- Reverse: There are several stamps, in blue ink. The top stamp reads “Assessment No.___Paid/ Jun 21, 1877/_____Secretary." The first blank space is filled with a handwritten "12" while the second blank space is filled with a handwritten signature "JWClark. The bottom stamp reads "Assessment No. ____ Paid/Feb 9 1878/ ______/Secretary." The first blank space is filled with "13” while the second blank space is filled with a handwritten signature "JWClark." There is the signature "James Coffin" is large handwritten letters underneath these stamps.
