- Description
- This is a black and white photograph of an African American Civil War Veteran at 11th Indiana Monument at Chickamauga. Standing sideways in front of the monument, he is in profile to the viewer. His left leg is propped up on the base of the monument. Wearing a long greatcoat buttoned to the neck and a hat, he holds a rifle with both hands wrapped around the end of the muzzle, resting the rifle butt on the ground in front of him. The monument is of stone and extends beyond the edge of the photograph. The man stands next to a large metal plaque set into the monument. Trees and a field are visible behind the monument. There is an inscription on the back.
