- This petition to free the SASO 9 was to be presented to the UN Committee Against Apartheid. STUDENTS FACE DEATH! / We are outraged by the violations of human rights and disregard for human dignity exhibited by the apartheid regime of / South Africa in the detention of SASO 9, SWAPO, NUSAS 5 and all political prisoners. Nine officers of the South African / Students Organization (SASO) have been incarcerated since 1974. On March 16, 1976, seven more SASO members were / detained, one of whom, Mr. Joseph Ndull, was tortured to death by the South African Secret Police. All 16 students face death sentences.].
