- Description
- Dark brown animal pelt chapeau de bras style naval hat. The outer edges of the brim are trimmed with what appears to be a brown brocade ribbon and there is folded metal gimp on the proper right side. Inside of the folded gimp are two jewels: a jet or onyx-like stone in a round gold-colored multi-pronged setting and adjacent to it a small opal-like stone. There is a brown bow on both the front and back of the hat that has a shoelace-like appearance.
- The under siding shows a black leather sweat band. The inner lining is dark satin and the liner tip has the maker’s marking. There is a logo inside of a circle which features a man standing with a cane in his proper right hand. There is text under the man which reads [TRADEMARK REG. US. PAT. OFF]. There also text going around the circle. It reads [W.M. H. HORSTMANN COMPANY] around the top half of the circle and [PHILADELPHIA] around the bottom half of the circle. There is an outer circle going around the text.
- The brown pelt on both sides and also on the top of the hat is darker in some areas and also appears to be a different texture. This is probably due to age.
