- Description
- A silver gelatin print depicting a black-and-white image of a large crowd of participants standing behind a barrier fence during the March on Washington, August 28, 1963. Several protest signs are visible above the crowd. One sign visible to the right foreground reads [ASBURY / METHODIST / CHURCH/ 11th & K STREETS NW / WASHINGTON, DC] is held by a woman in front of the fencing. In the background, near the top center of the image, are four (4) men sitting in the trees above the crowd.
- On the verso of the image are handwritten inscriptions that provide publication information, image date, event information, location, image number, the name of the printer, and the signature of the donor. There is also the photographer’s label as well as a stamp mark in black ink in the bottom right corner of the verso.
