Description
A silver gelatin print depicting a black-and-white image of a student participating in the March on Washington, August 28, 1963. The student is depicted in profile. He is wearing a white button down shirt with thin stripes under a white jacket. There is a white and black pin back button over his proper right breast that reads [FREEDOM / RIDE / CORE] in white and black block text. He is holding a partially shown sign that reads [STUDE[NT?] / NON-VIOLENT /CO-ORDINATING / COMMITTEE / CAMBRIDGE / NON-VIOLENT / ACTION / COMMITTEE / UPWA / AFL-CIO / DISTRICT 6]. In the background there is a large body of March participants and a large multistoried building in the distant background.
On the verso of the image are handwritten inscriptions that provide the image date, event information, location, image number, the name of the printer, and the signature of the donor. There is also the photographer’s label as well as two (2) stamp marks in black ink in the bottom right corner of the verso.
