- Description
- A silver gelatin print depicting a black-and-white image of participants gathered under a tree during in the March on Washington, August 28, 1963. The tree is centrally depicted. A man in a white short-sleeve shirt, dark pants, and a hat leans against the trunk facing the viewer. Another man stands under the tree shade slightly to the left of the trunk and a third man, a woman and two (2) children are seated by the tree trunk on the right side. A walkway extends from the left foreground towards the right edge of the image. Dozens of people are depicted in the on the walkway and on the grassy areas in front and behind the walkway. The ground is heavily littered with paper debris and discarded signs.
- On the verso of the image are handwritten inscriptions that provide publication information, image date, event information, location, image number, the name of the printer, and the signature of the donor. There is a stamp mark in black ink in the bottom right corner of the verso.
