- Description
- A silver gelatin print depicting a black-and-white image of participants holding protest signs during the March on Washington on August 28, 1963. Most of the signs are partially obscured or cropped. The sign in the center of the image reads [[WE] / DEMAND / [V]OTING / RIGHTS / NOW] and a sign on the right side of the image reads [WE / DEMAND / AN END / TO / POLICE / BRUTALITY / NOW!]. A woman in the foreground on the left side of the image is wearing a pin back button that reads [I Am a / Civil Rights / Marcher]. A man standing in the foreground of the right side of the image with his back to the viewer, is wearing a wedge cap and a flower garland around his neck.
- On the verso of the image are handwritten inscriptions that provide publication information, image date, event information, location, image number, the name of the printer, and the signature of the donor. There are also three (3) stamp marks in black ink in the bottom right corner of the verso.
