- Caption
- Shoes recently kicked off, toys on the stairs, and a purse dangling from a newel post are all offered by Bright as traces of the Black domestic interior in The Suburbia Portfolio. With figures just out of frame or carefully obscured, these scenes maintain privacy for residents but also create an atmosphere of familiar intimacy and downtime.
- Description
- A color photograph of a bedroom. At center of the photograph is a wardrobe with chest of drawers. On top of the chest of drawers is a framed portrait photograph of a woman. At proper right is a chair covered with a white slipcover or sheet, with two (2) dolls propped up against a pillow on the seat of the chair. A bed with a white quilt can be seen in the mirror on the wardrobe door. Behind the bed stands a woman in a white shirt, out of focus.
