- Shoes recently kicked off, toys on the stairs, and a purse dangling from a newel post are all offered by Bright as traces of the Black domestic interior in The Suburbia Portfolio. With figures just out of frame or carefully obscured, these scenes maintain privacy for residents but also create an atmosphere of familiar intimacy and downtime.
- Description
- A color photograph of the interior of a modern house. At proper left is a staircase thatleads down to a landing on which there are two (2) child's toy trucks and a pair of pink fuzzy slippers. On the first stair is a doll's head with hair that can be styled. At proper left, mostly out of frame, is a child's back. At proper right is the living space of the home, including a leather sofa, a large framed artwork, and a wooden dining table with clear plastic chairs. Behind the table are large pane glass windows with an expanse of leafless trees visible through the windows.
