- Description
- A Flemish brick from an unknown architectural structure in Charleston, South Carolina, made by an enslaved person. It is a solid style, fired terracotta brick. The rectangular brick is brownish red in color with grayish-white, Portland cement mortar residue on five (5) sides. The Old Slave Mart Museum catalog number, [R152], is handwritten in black ink over a small rectangular patch of white paint in a corner of one of the faces of the brick. The brick is heavily weathered and worn on all sides and there is a significant loss along the stretcher edge of the plain face of the brick. The brick is slightly curved towards the header ends.
