- Description
- A square brick, made by an enslaved person, from an unknown architectural structure in Charleston, South Carolina. It is a solid style, sand cast, fired brick. The brick is dark reddish brown in color with worn surfaces and edges. The brick is slightly lopsided. One corner of the plain brick face is missing and the surface of that face is roughly textured from the molding process. The Old Slave Mart Museum catalog number, [R158], is handwritten in black ink over a small rectangular patch of white paint in a corner of the brick’s other face. There are small amounts of white residue on both of the brick’s faces.
