Description
A mid-nineteenth century iron shutter hook (or shutter dog) from Charleston, South Carolina. The shutter hook is constructed from two pieces of iron, a decorative scroll plate and a bolt, held together with a screw. The plate is scrolled in opposite directions. The bolt has a rounded shaft and ends in a wide, triangular piece. A white painted rectangle with black, hand painted text on the bottom of the plate near the screw hole reads [R334].
