- Description
- A medal awarded to Ezzard Charles by The Ring Magazine for the year 1950. The medal consists of a top plate that reads [The / RING / FIGHTER OF THE YEAR / AWARD], below which hang two chains, the ends of which are joined by a second plate with text reading [PRESENTED TO / EZZARD CHARLES] flanked by boxing gloves. Below the second plate hangs a single chain to which is attached an oval pendant. The center of the pendant depicts two boxers fighting, and the reverse depicts a shield bearing stars and stripes with an eagle above it. The top plate holds in place a red, white and blue ribbon. The edge of the pendant depicts radiant bands. The award is attached to the National Championship belt for 1938 (2017.28.4).
