- Carte-de-visite of Mary Barker Bowen shown in bust portrait. Her body faces the camera, but her head is turned a quarter to her left and she looks off camera. Her hair is parted at the center and pulled into a chignon at the nape of her neck. She wears a dark bodice with a white collar and an oval brooch at her front neck. The bottom portion of the image is purposefully faded in the popular style of the time.
- Handwritten in graphite on the bottom of the print is the name "Mrs. Bowen" with "1866" written below the print on the mount. There is a green and white 3 cent canceled revenue stamp on the back of the print featuring George Washington with HU / NY written over it in ink with Henry Ulke's mark printed above it.
- The photograph is housed in the album 2017.30. The album page has a triple-lined, gold border framing the print. Handwritten in graphite at the lower left corner of the album page is the text "HENRY ULKE".
