Description
Carte-de-visite of Mary Barker Bowen shown in bust portrait. Her body faces the camera, but her head is turned a quarter to her left and she looks off camera. Her hair is parted at the center and pulled into a chignon at the nape of her neck. She wears a dark bodice with a white collar and an oval brooch at her front neck. The bottom portion of the image is purposefully faded in the popular style of the time.
Handwritten in graphite on the bottom of the print is the name "Mrs. Bowen" with "1866" written below the print on the mount. There is a green and white 3 cent canceled revenue stamp on the back of the print featuring George Washington with HU / NY written over it in ink with Henry Ulke's mark printed above it.
The photograph is housed in the album 2017.30. The album page has a triple-lined, gold border framing the print. Handwritten in graphite at the lower left corner of the album page is the text "HENRY ULKE".
