- Description
- A coiled sweetgrass basket made by Mary A. Jackson. The tall, round basket is covered with an attached lid and has a wrapped central handle. Just under the lip of the basket, two coils rise up from the front and back of the body and are sewn together above the basket to form the single, central handle. The lid of the basket is interwoven to the body of the basket to form a hinge so that the lid may be lifted off to expose the inside of the basket, but not completely removed. The basket is composed mostly of sweetgrass in nearly the same light-colored shade as the palmetto wrappings. Pine needles form two narrow rings of darker color on the body, as well as at the center and top outside edge of the lid.
