- Description
- An albumen carte-de-visite of a boy identified as "Sandy" of Company A, 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Sandy is depicted sitting on a wooden ladder-back chair, facing directly towards the viewer and is smiling. He sits diagonally with his proper left arm folded over the top of the chair and his proper right leg resting on an upturned bucket, his proper right hand on his knee. He is wearing a slouch hat with a center-buttoned shirt, oversized pants, and boots. He is depicted against a plain background. There is a black double line border surrounding the outer edge image. Handwritten in black ink underneath the photograph is [Sandy. Co. A. 15th P.C.] On the verso is a later inscription in graphite that reads, [Servant in Co A, 15th PV Cav., former / slave. "The most / prominent negro singer / in the regt. See page / 208 of the regimental / history for a great / description.]
