- A broadside of the New England Loyal Publication Society, consisting of a single sheet of white wove rag paper with printed black ink on one side only. The top right corner has undergone a prior repair.The header across the top reads [No. 147 / NEW ENGLAND LOYAL PUBLICATION SOCIETY / OFFICE, No. 8 STUDIO BUILDING, BOSTON / DECEMBER 18, 1863.]. The text is arranged in three columns and consists of four articles: "Leasing Plantations," regarding government leased plantations along the Mississippi River and conditions for the formerly enslaved laborers including pay, housing, rations, clothing, and keeping families together; "The Solution to the Negro Question" (from the St. Joseph, Missouri Morning Herald), “the enlistment of colored men” from Boone and Calloway counties in Missouri based on Order No. 135 and arguing against reimbursement of the enslavers who are known not to be “loyal owners;" "Arkansas," about the number of new regiments for the Union being raised in Arkansas and how the tide has shifted toward the Union in that state; and "Yankee Subjugation" (from the New Orleans Era), considering the Union occupation of New Orleans which is significantly lowering the cost of living in that city. The verso has a handwritten inscription reading [N.E.L.P. Soc. / No. 147 Mar. 1864].
