Description
A sepia tone carte-de-visite of a young black woman holding a white infant. Captured seated on a carved wooden chair, a woman with dark hair holds a baby on her lap. The woman wears a high-necked printed dress with smocking at the chest and balloon sleeves at the shoulders. She wears a ring on the ring finger of her proper left hand. The baby wears a long white gown with extended lace collar. Below the image, on the card mount in brown ink is: [Juan Pia / BUENOS AIRES / 442, Plaza Victoria, 442].
On the reverse of the carte-de-visite are several detailed ink stamps, including the photographer’s information. From top to bottom, they say: [September 1895 / Abrillantados Extra / Fotografia / Esmero / en el / TRABAJO / Juan Pia / 442, Plaza Victoria, 442 / Buenos Aires].
