- Description
- An Adobe Illustrator file of the site plan and elevations from a project titled "Black Effect" by Tobi Ashiru. The project is an artistic reimagining of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. This is a grouping of five imagined exterior views of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. On the left is a large, aerial view of the museum and grounds. On the right are four vertically stacked elevation views, one from each side of the museum. The background of the illustrator image is yellow, and the renderings are primarily gray, white, and green. Printed in the bottom left corner of the rendering is black, block text that reads [BLACK EFFECT].
- At the center of the aerial view on the left is the museum itself, represented by a gray shaded white square. On either side, are elevated footpaths. The museum grounds are surrounded by green lawns, grey footpaths, and a narrow, circular water feature along the top and bottom edges. The top, or east side, of the site plan depicts a circular plaza with concentric water feature segments as well as a second, round water feature with a footbridge over it. The bottom, or west side, features a yellow U-shaped sunken walkway over a semi-circular water feature. Along the left side and at the top right corner are two subterranean entrances.
- The top right, or southeast, subterranean entrance corresponds to the top elevation view, which shows the v-shaped view of the sunken walkway to the building. The second elevation view depicts the exterior of the south side of the building. The third elevation depicts the same south side view, but of the interior view, including the underground elements. The fourth and final elevation view depicts the sunken walkway at the west side of the building. The walls of the walkway are lined with images representing the Middle Passage with enslaved figures appearing in tightly confined horizontal rows.
