Description
An Adobe Illustrator file of the “upper view render” from a project titled “Black Effect” by Tobi Ashiru. The project is an artistic reimagining of the National Museum of African American History and Culture with this view depicting an elevated exterior view from the west side of the building, looking south.
The rendering is shown from the perspective of a balcony on top of an overhang above Heritage Hall. The balcony features a narrow strip of greenspace that extends almost the full length of the building to the southwest corner. Behind the greenspace there is a brown bench that runs the full length of the greenspace and in front is line of windows. Behind the bench are windows and a square windowed enclosure. The first and second tiers of the museum building on this side of the building are rendered in white with diagonal black stripes above. Between the two tiers is a strip of green grass and white flowers giving the appearance of a living wall or garden space. On the grounds below is a sunken walkway to the west facing side of the museum. The walled walkway divides a water feature in front of the museum. The long wall along the walkway is lined with images representing the Middle Passage, with enslaved figures depicted in tightly packed horizontal rows. The sky is rendered in yellow and there are two trees on the far right edge of the image with a row of plants and yellow rose bushes planted in the front. In the background, at the center, is a flowering cherry blossom tree. Several footpaths, rendered in gray, lead to the south side of the building.
