- Description
- A sepia tone photographic postcard featuring an unidentified woman seated in a plain, wooden armchair. The photograph is in portrait orientation. The chair and the woman are turned in three-quarters pose towards the left edge of the image. She is leaning slightly forward in her chair and gripping the handle of an umbrella propped on the floor with her proper right hand. Her proper left hand is resting on top of a small striped handbag in her lap. She is wearing a white, Edwardian style suit with a double breasted jacket and long skirt. The jacket is buttoned at her waist and features wide lapels accented with matching fabric covered buttons along the left and right edges. She is also wearing a light tone, lacy blouse with a high collar beneath her jacket. There is an oval shaped brooch at the throat. Her hair is tucked beneath a light tone, Edwardian, wide band picture hat decorated with dark feathers, a medallion, and draped with tulle. In the background is a cloudy photographic backdrop. The image has a thin cream colored border along all four edges. The reverse has a landscape orientation and is white with black ink text. The text [POST CARD] is written in outlined letters across the top with black text below that reads [ATLANTIC CITY SOUVENIR / THIS SIDE FOR THE ADDRESS]. Below is a blank section. Printed vertically along the left edge is the photographer’s name and address: [FOTO BY “DITTRICH”] in large, outlined letters and [1107 BOARDWALK / ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.] printed in smaller black text. The photographer’s stamp is printed vertically in the bottom right corner. It depicts a shield with the letter ‘D” emblazoned on the front. On top of the shield is a lion in profile and ribbons protrude from the base of the shield. The shield overlays a laurel wreath. At the top right is an AZO stamp box. Handwritten pencil text in the top left corner reads [50?-MP].
