Description
A first edition, hardcover book (a) with a removable dust jacket (b) of In Pursuit of Flavor by Edna Lewis. The dust jacket cover features a color photograph of Edna Lewis shopping at a produce market, a large brown basket filled with vegetables over her proper right arm. She holds a piece of yellow fruit up to her nose in her other hand. Surrounding her are baskets and crates of produce. Across the top, in yellow and red decorative letters against a dark green background is [EDNA LEWIS]. Along the right side is a yellow ribbon banner with large red text reading [IN / PURSUIT / OF / FLAVOR]. In the bottom right corner is a yellow rectangle with black text that gives a summary of the book. The book has line drawing illustrations by Louisa Jones Wallter throughout, including a portrait of Lewis, standing above a table strewn with tea cups, on the title page. Contents include an introduction followed by six chapters: 1. From the Gardens and Orchards; 2. From the Farmyard; 3. From the Lakes, Streams, and Oceans; 4. For the Cupboard; 5. From the Bread Oven and Griddle; 6. The Good Taste of Old-fashioned Desserts. The book also has three appendices: "Mail Order Sources for Open-pollinated Seeds and Plants, Fruit Trees, and Berries," "Shops That Carry Game and Wild Turkey," and "Special Union Square Greenmarket Produce." The book has 323 pages.
