- Caption
- The artist of the silver plantain necklace/interactive art piece, Miguel Luciano, captured this image when he allowed students in Brooklyn to play with the sculpture while he took photographs. The unidentified student pictured here came naturally to this pose, which suggests pride in the artwork as a symbol of his Caribbean Latinx culture and identity.
- Description
- This is a color chromogenic print with an aluminum frame and acrylilc glazing. The image, titled Plátano Pride, depicts a young, unidentified Afro-Puerto Rican, Brooklyn-born student dressed in an oversized white t-shirt with a plantain-shaped platinum pendant on a sterling silver curb chain (NMAAHC 2021.70.1). The young boy wears a serious expression, cocking his head to the side and holding out a sculpture / jewelry piece with his proper right thumb. He is posed against a black background.
