Description
A digital scan (jpg file) of an architectural drawing for a Warriors in Transition barracks at the Fort Belvoir military post in Virginia. The original drawing was done in pen and ink with Prismacolor markers.
An early concept sketch on the left side of the drawing depicts floors and materials. In the band representing the roof, [asphalt shingles] is handwritten, followed by alternating layers of brick and precast bands, ultimately ending in a [stone base] at the bottom.
A diagonal line running through the sketch separates the early drawing on the left from a detailed drawing on the right. This detailed drawing contains color, windows, doors, and annotations. Here, small, loosely drawn rectangles depict numerous windows on each floor, while larger, partially shaded quadrangles evince balconies. One of the windows to the far right is extrapolated to show its dimensions (three (3) feet wide and four (4) feet high), as well as a precast header and a brick sill. Green and brown ink are used to represent the building's exterior, respectively annotated as brick for the upper floors and brick with rustication for the lower floors.
At the bottom of the drawing, below the ground plane, horizontal lines show the relative distance between the building's key features.
