Description
A dark blue, hardback, ninth edition of A History of Architecture owned and used by architect Julian Abele Cook, Sr.
The blue front cover of the book (a) is iullstrated in gold with an image of a goddess, likely Hestia, holding a scroll and seated beneath an ornate pediment. On either side are trees planted in urns. beneath Hestia, set within an etablature above ornate columns, is the title: [A HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE / ON THE COMPARATIVE METHOD / SIR BANISTER FLETCHER]. The first two pages (b) have become detached from the text block. One of the pages has an inscription in black ink: [This Book is the Property of: / Julian A. Cook]. The interior contents are divided into five sections: Influences, Architectural Character, Examples, and Comparative Analysis. The book has about 4,000 illustrations, including full-page line illustrations and maps, listed in the front "List of Illustrations" beginning on page xii.
Within the book is a handmade cloth spinal bookmark (.2) wrapped in red paper.
