Description
A Washington Corona Coffee Table designed by Sir David Adjaye. The table has an abstract sculptural table base (2022.53.1a) composed of four sand-cast bronze panels with machined bronze connecting plates, brass hardware, and a clear glass tabletop (2022.53.1b). Each of the bronze panels are corona-shaped, with the lateral sides extending up to a top that is longer than the parallel base. The solid, mat bronze exteriors of the panels are arched at the bottom and convex towards the center of the tabletop. The panels' side edges, where they are attached to the other panels with connecting plates, taper inwards towards the bottom, with the connecting plates shaping the four corners of the table and the table's stylized legs. The interior side of the panels are polished to a mirror shine. Viewed from the top, the convex panels form curvilinear shapes extending towards the center interior of the table, over the sculpted arches of the base, creating a diamond-shaped negative space at the very center. At the top of each corner of the table is a small, molded diamond-shaped piece that holds the glass tabletop. The tabletop (2022.53.1b) is constructed from a single piece of clear glass with chamfered edges, in a square shape with abbreviated corners. It sits flush to the tabletop frame.
