Description
A large, white, bone china dinner plate from the Wedgwood X Sheila Bridges collaboration, featuring the basketball vignette from Bridges' Harlem Toile de Jouy design. The dinner plate is part of a four-piece place setting set that also consists of a large soup bowl with horses (2022.75.1.2), a smaller bowl with picnic scene (2022.75.1.3), and a lavender accent plate with jump rope scene (2022.75.1.4).
This is a large, round white plate with a vignette of three young men playing basketball set along the plate’s proper right side. The men wear 18th century clothing and play beneath a tree with the basket suspended from a limb by ribbon. A balustrade is visible in the background behind them. The only color in the otherwise grey-toned design is the reddish-brown basketball and the yellow of one of the player's shirts. The plate has a black rim.
The underside of the plate features a backstamp vignette of the young man in the yellow shirt from the basketball scene dancing with the girl in the yellow dress and green sweater from the jump rope scene. There is a boombox sitting on the ground next to the man. At center is [WEDGWOOD / x / SHEILA BRIDGES].
