- Description
- A soda-fired stoneware and sea glass sculpture titled Hybrid No. 00305152021, created by Anina Major. The sculpture combines multiple styles of weaving and glazing across three tiered sections that have been stacked together to form a sculptural basket with a round, main body and a projecting “crown” or “bloom” piece at the top.
- The main body of the sculpture is composed of two pieces, each formed from flat and wide pieces of clay woven together. The upper half has gold and variegated glazing, and the lower half has brown and rust matte glazing. The two sections are joined at the middle to form a hollow, ball-like plaited structure. A translucent green glaze has been applied selectively throughout the body section. The projecting, top piece has a dark, smooth, and glossy glaze. The piece fits into the top opening of the body and is constructed using a coiling technique of non-continuous strands of clay with a single/double “over and under” weave. The piece is only woven on the top half of the warp stakes, appearing to “bloom” from the body.
