Description
A mini zine from the Kids Solidarity Mini Zine Pack titled Autistic Joy: a Zine by Jen & Knox, designed by Jennifer White-Johnson and written by Kevin “Knox” Johnson III. The mini zine is constructed from a single sheet of white, heavy weight paper that has a slit at the center and has been folded into eighths, creating a six page booklet. The front of the single page is divided into eight panels which form the six interior pages and the front and back covers. The back of the page is white and plain. In its folded format, the front cover is pink with a thin orange frame and the zine title and subtitle printed in centered brown text of varying sizes and fonts that reads, [Autistic / JOY / a zine by / jen & knox]. The back cover features an orange, pink, and blue illustration of Knox Johnson’s silhouette in profile. The illustration is overlaid with pink, yellow, orange, and red circles, starbursts, and freeform lines. The interior pages include orange text, black-and-white photographs, and color illustrations. Pages one and two feature side-by-side, black-and-white images of Johnson. In the image on page one, Johnson is shirtless, smiling, looking into the distance, and leaning towards the viewer. In the image on page two, Johnson is similarly shirtless, wearing dark tone bottoms, and standing in a front, double bicep pose. In both photographic images, Johnson is standing in a grassy field and there are leafy trees in the background. On page three are repeating illustrations of a child’s silhouette, facing forward, with upwards raised arms. The illustrations are irregularly repeated in reds, oranges, and blues and are different sizes. Page four features a black-and-white close-up photographic image of Johnson. The image depicts Johnson’s proper left eye, cheek, and the side of his nose. His skin is covered in water droplets. Pages five and six are taupe and feature brown text that reads [believe in the / freedom / of being you].
