- Description
- A reproduction print titled “African Women” by Varnette Honeywood. The vibrant print depicts a left profile view of six women of different skin tones and different colors and styles of headwear, standing in pairs. Going from back left to front right, the color of the headwears are blue, yellow, green, pink, white, and teal. The woman in the front left wearing a yellow headwear is carrying an akua’ba, a wooden ritual fertility doll used in Southern Ghana and surrounding areas.The woman behind her in the pink headwear is carrying a baby via back wrap. The women in the yellow, green, and white headwear are carrying low, black baskets on their heads. Behind the women, an orange sun hangs in a pale orange sky.
- The artist signed the print on the front, bottom right in pencil outside of the artwork [© Varnette P. Honeywood, 1982] and wrote the title in the bottom left ["African Women"]. A second signature of the artist is in the bottom right corner inside of the artwork "Varnette P. Honeywood."
