Description
A framed black-and-white gelatin silver photograph titled “Untitled (Man Reading Newspaper)” by Carrie Mae Weems. The photograph captures a scene in a kitchen. At the center is a kitchen table with a man seated at the end of it, wearing a black shirt as he reads a newspaper. A glass of a clear liquid, likely water, is on the man’s proper left. Behind the man’s proper right side is Weems leaning against the wall dressed in lace lingerie with an open, dark color robe. Weems appears to be looking at the man or over his shoulder from a distance. An empty chair is next to the man’s proper left and behind him, a door. Above the kitchen table is a cone pendant light fixture. The scene comes from Weems’ storytelling of a woman’s life. It is a part of the ‘Kitchen Table Series’ and the print is from the Collector's Edition of the book "Kitchen Table Series."
The artist signed, dated, and numbered the print on the back of the photograph.
