Description
A signed, second edition of “A Date With A Dish: A Cook Book of American Basic Recipes” by Freda De Knight. The yellow hardcover book has 426 pages with illustrations by S. Lodico and contains recipes originally published in De Knight’s “Ebony” column as food editor, “A Date With A Dish.”
The front cover of the book jacket is a yellow background with a realistic image of butter knife on the left and a black silhouette of the bowl of a spoon placed sideways from the right edge with white text inside it reading [A DATE / WITH / A DISH.] At the bottom is the black silhouette of a fork placed sideways from the left edge, with white text on the handle [BY FREDA DE KNIGHT]. A chef stands on bowl of the fork and the three prongs of the fork are replaced by three lines of black text: [A COOK BOOK / OF AMERICAN / BASIC RECIPES]. The back cover of the book jacket is a white background with black text of a review by Joseph Henry Jackson. Publisher house information is along the bottom edge.
The front flap of the book jacket has the book title, summary of the book, and excerpt of the forward by Gertrude Blair in black text and the author’s name in green text. The back flap is a biography of Freda De Knight in black text and a black and white photograph of De Knight against a yellow background.
De Knight’s signature can be found on the first page. On the back of the front cover is a handwritten pencil inscription.
