Description
Metropolitan Association of the Amateur Athletic Union medal gold medal for the Running Broad Jump event awarded to Eulace Peacock in 1938. The medal consists of a gold toned pin holding a red, white, and blue ribbon attached to a gold medal. The gold pin is round with a safety pin closure on the back. Below is another pin below that holds the ribbon. The front of the pin is a small relief frame with text that reads [CHAMPIONSHIP]. Below the pin is a red, white, and blue ribbon. It is looped through the back bottom pin and held in place with thread. Attached to the bottom of the ribbon is the medal held in place with a jump ring. The obverse of the medal is edged with tow (2) concentric circles. In the center of the medal is a relief depiction of the Greek Goddess of Victory seated in profile, behind two (2) shields decorated with coats of arms. Below the shields is a relief depiction of a winged caduceus overlaid on a circular ray sun motif. Her proper right hand is extended and she is holding a laurel wreath. Her proper left arm is resting on the top of one of the shields. Printed in relief around the central figure is the text [METROPOLITAN ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN ASSOCIATION OF THE A.A.U.]. The reverse of the medal is edged with two (2) concentric circles. A relief depiction of a laurel wreath runs around almost the full inner edge of the circle. At the top is a relief banner with the text that reads [CHAMPION]. Inscribed at the top of the medal is the date [‘38] and in the center is engraved text that reads [RUN BROAD JUMP]. The maker’s mark is printed in relief text along the bottom edge of the medal that reads [DIEGES & CLUST].
