- This photograph was inscribed by President George W. Bush to General Colin Powell. It hung in the sitting room of the Powell family's residence in McLean, Virginia. General Powell served as Secretary of State under President Bush from 2001 to 2005 and was the first African American to hold this position.
- Description
- A framed and inscribed photograph of General Colin L. Powell and President George W. Bush. This photograph (a) captures 65th Secretary of State, General Powell, laughing with President Bush, who is pointing to the camera. The two men are dressed in dark suits and wear white shirts and neckties. General Powell is seated with his proper right hand raised in a moving blur. His proper left arm is around President Bush’s waist as the President stands leaning into Powell with his proper left arm raised and index finger pointing upward. A very large plant in a glazed blue and gold pot sits to the right of the men, who are situated in front of a large window. White doors with large, curved handles can be seen in the reflection of the glass behind the men whose faces are illuminated by the natural light to their proper right. in the bottom white sheet of the photograph is a handwritten inscription in black ink that reads: [to Colin / What a / team! / Thanks / George Bush]. The photograph (a) is set behind a white square window mat and housed inside of a mahogany brown, deep set, wooden frame (b).
