General Powell kept this photograph on his desk in the study of his home in McLean, Virginia. Pictured are Powell's wife, Alma, and his three children, Annemarie (left), Michael (center), and Linda (right). In his autobiography, Powell describes this photograph as depicting "the most important people in my life."
Description
A framed black-and-white photograph of General Colin L. Powell's wife and children, Alma, Michael, Linda, and Annemarie Powell, ca. 1987. This photograph (a) captures a moment with the Powell family, smiling as they pose together in their home. The three children (left to right) Annamarie, Michael, and Linda, sit and stand around the high-backed chair on which their mother Alma sits. Alma wears a dark long sleeve top, earring, wristwatch, and brooch. Annemarie, sitting on the proper right arm of the chair, wears a bright knit three-quarter length top and bright bottoms. Michael wears a highly pattered sweater featuring large snowflakes. Linda wears earrings, a bright long sleeve shirts with dark scarf around her neck, and dark bottoms. There are bangles and a wristwatch on her proper left arm. There are no markings on the reverse of the photograph. On the reverse of the bright brown wooden frame (b), adhered to the bottom of the black backing, are two white labels with black text. The round label reads: [HANDCRAFTED / IN THAILAND / Fretco]. The second label features the numbers “7264”.
