Description
A large black yearbook, “The Bell” for the United States Army Combined Arms Center class of 1968 at Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Kansas. The Bell showcases photographs of its military students, their families, activities, honors, and duties.
On the spine in large gold block text is the title and year of the class, “THE / BELL / 1968”, situated vertically. On the front lower right of the yearbook’s cover is a large square brass plate insignia for the Command And General Staff College, or, Leavenworth Ad Bellum Pace Parati. The first blank page at the front of the inside of the yearbook features an apostille or relief, of the Leavenworth crest/insignia. The crest depicts an eagle at the top with the name “LEAVEN” and WORTH” embossed across two cloth scrolls held in the eagle’s mouth. A soldier’s closed medieval helmet is situated below the eagle and above the chevron coat of arms with three genie lamps. The “AD BELLUM PACE PARATI” insignia is embossed across a floating cloth scroll below the coat of arms. Professional black-and-white photographs of the military personnel class, their families, cartoons, and photographs of team events, are featured throughout. General Powell, then, Major Powell of Infantry, is pictured on page 189, in uniform and with his wife Alma, his daughter Linda, and his son, Michael.
