This small, square book, written in 1945 by Lieutenant Commander Seymour J. Schoenfeld, gives insight into the African American experience serving in the United States military. The book is constructed of a hard and fibrous covering and features large dark blue text on the front and spine which read, respectively, “THE NEGRO / In the / ARMED FORCES / SEYMOUR J. SHOENFELD” AND “THE NEGRO IN THE ARMED FORCES—SCHOENFELD”. The interior of the book features fibrous paper numbered to seventy-eight (78) and includes four back blank pages. There are no markings on the reverse of the back cover.
